dark patterns

As I was reading articles of dark patterns, I was very surprised at how companies go out of their way to get consumers to buy their products. Although I was surprised, I at the same time, I wasn't. This is because these days all companies care about is to get you to buy their products and devour all your money. The thing that most shocked me was the a a video made about amazon. In this video, it shows how ridiculously hard it was to try to delete a subscription account. The fact that you have to specifically know which buttons to click, says how far companies are willing to go to make as much money as possible. I have personally been through this experience because anytime I go online shopping, there is always adds or promotions that pop up claiming that a product is at an all time low price, and that just makes you want to buy it. I have also experienced that I buy a product on a website, and it says that the next time you purchase something, you will get 10 dollars off. This ...

behind the ignite talks

Regarding yesterday's ignite talk on everybodys big question, many of them were very interesting some that really interested me were from my close friends. These questions were also close to me because I have always wondered about them. My classmate Jennifer Lopez had the big question of:  Can a multiverse be open as a frequency or energy?    Does this make time travel and guardian angels a real possibility? She said that she sad been interested in this for months now and is really curious and just simply wants some answers. She is also interested in the newly corona virus outbreak.  Another classmate of mine, Destiny Garcia had the question of why do students need to take classes that have nothing to do with their majors. She is very passionate about this and thinks that is it pointless because it makes people feel bad about themselves and it is ruining their gpa. She also says that it ruins their mindset. Is is so crazy how people are really curios about things...

im ignited

Today we discussed our big question. My big question is why do influencers on social media think its okay change the definition of true beauty. Many infuencers claim to be body positive but are quick to shame other people for their looks. Many of them post pictures on social media like Instagram and advertise body positivity , but at the same time face-tune their pictures to make them look skinnier and more appealing. True beauty comes from the inside. Being compassionate and having a good character are virtuous traits and society needs to stop telling us differently. Some big questions that really stood out to me for whatever reason from my classmates were:  Can a person of color be racist?,    Why isn’t saving Earth our top priority? and  Is life real or just a hallucination?

hopepunk

The term "hopepunk" all started because of a writer's post   “The opposite of grimdark is hopepunk,”  declared  Alexandra Rowland, a Massachusetts writer, in a two-sentence Tumblr post in July 2017. “Pass it on.”  And so, hopepunk was born.   I learned that  hopepunk is as much a mood and a spirit as a definable literary movement, a narrative message of “keep fighting, no matter what.”

last century's writing style

A genre is made up  Naturalism : makes the protagonist a victim of forces greater than their elf (exaggerated forces) Realism :  keeping it real. don't make something seem grander or more difficult than it was Modernism : knowing the old ways were not the best  "Break the rules"→ they wrote their own/new rules    Ex:  New Words, Fragments  Liminal=  n ot what we used but not quite yet of what we are going to become

ethos are the element of the messenger that create a sense of credibility -they could be nonverbal or verbal the only place where we talk about ethos pathos and logos is in an academic place they can overlap pathos- the speakers ability to connect to the readers logos- logic more effective persuaders logically  fallacy an error a slippery slope reason truth conclusion works a lot like a geometry equation Martin Luther King Junior Speech bring freedom to our nation "withering injustice" diction syntax he is saying these words to people who don't really have any education  we have anything we need within our phones we have more power with those devices than when nasa first launched a rocket metaphor imagery figurative language

today i interviewed an expert

Cory Doctorow is a successful author of many books. As I have been interview and was terrified the entire time, I wanted to see how an expert like Cory would act and respond in an interview. So today, we interviewed him as a class. It was nothing like how I had expected it. I was expecting him to just talk about how he became a writer and about literature, but it surprised me that he was taking about the technology now days. The following are some notes that I took while interviewing him: "Some day the world may be controlled by as many as 6 computers" Technology want really a hobby in the old days.It was invented because it was popular as was a business millions of websites were being invented everyday WEBSITES/ services  technology was weird because it was like who was it who gets to be a Tick Tock star- you just have to get luck and come u with something weird that would spark  overtime people have made it into a business and have become professionals but the numbe...

class notes

class notes  anthropomorphism  - when we assign human qualities to animals or objects personification -  when somebody embodies an idea (a walking person of humor) diction - the author's choice of words allusion -  a reference to something the author thinks we should know, not memorize or have on the tip of our tongues. different people have different ways of knowing it might be the way we do things tone  - the authors attitude toward the topic audience or characters by the end of the semester it should be like our native language eugenics -  determine someones intelligence by the size of their heads and color of your skin normalizing behavior - to normalize dumb stuff
