notes and thoughts: chapter 4

In this chapter:


  • we are introduced to more characters
  • in chapter 3, we are introduced to character but in this chapter, we see who they truly are and their true colors 
  • Gatsby invites Nick to lunch
  • he asks Nick what who he really thinks he is and proceeded to prove to Nick who he was 
  • Gatsby and Tom meet while at lunch
  • Daisy says she has changed her mind about marrying Tom but hen 2 days later she is happy as ever marrying him 
  • Gatsby throws all these parties hoping Daisy will stumble into one
  • Gatsby tells Nick to invite Daisy to tea

When Hawthorne wrote Goodman Brown, he must've done it because of something. I think he wrote this story as sort of a warning to show the readers,that not everyone you know is who you really think they are. His purpose was to show how someone's perspective on someone could change so fast when they really start to pay attention to one's personality, and gain a better understanding of who they really are. Faith, Brown's wife, was aptly named, because when he met he man on the walk, Brown kept saying that he wanted to go back to Faith, which he knew that the man standing in front of him was evil, so "Faith" had a double meaning. Brown didn't want to go with the evil man and kept say that he didn't want to go with the evil man but he wanted to continue his faith. The pink ribbons mentioned over and over in the story signify that even though Goodman Brown is faced with the devil and trying to be taken his faith away, there is still a little hope for him...

How I Read

When I was in elementary really loved books. I would always be reading one when ever I had the chance. If i was on a road trip, you bet I had a book in my hand. I would even be reading on the way to nearby store. In junior high, I joined Battle of the Books which was rely cool. In the actuall completion we ended up 2nd place but it was all because the questions for the other school were so easy!!! I mean it was rigged !!! Anyways, I really enjoyed reading books especially non fiction. I started to read less as the years went by because i began to have more homework and i also got a phone which was not good lol. Overall i really enjoy reading and when I finished reading a book this week it reminded me how it felt to actually sit down and just read. One thing I really love about reading is that it just takes you to your  imagination and its amazing!
