As I was reading articles of dark patterns, I was very surprised at how companies go out of their way to get consumers to buy their products. Although I was surprised, I at the same time, I wasn't. This is because these days all companies care about is to get you to buy their products and devour all your money. The thing that most shocked me was the a a video made about amazon. In this video, it shows how ridiculously hard it was to try to delete a subscription account. The fact that you have to specifically know which buttons to click, says how far companies are willing to go to make as much money as possible. I have personally been through this experience because anytime I go online shopping, there is always adds or promotions that pop up claiming that a product is at an all time low price, and that just makes you want to buy it. When Hawthorne wrote Goodman Brown, he must've done it because of something. I think he wrote this story as sort of a warning to show the readers,that not everyone you know is who you really think they are. His purpose was to show how someone's perspective on someone could change so fast when they really start to pay attention to one's personality, and gain a better understanding of who they really are. Faith, Brown's wife, was aptly named, because when he met he man on the walk, Brown kept saying that he wanted to go back to Faith, which he knew that the man standing in front of him was evil, so "Faith" had a double meaning. Brown didn't want to go with the evil man and kept say that he didn't want to go with the evil man but he wanted to continue his faith. The pink ribbons mentioned over and over in the story signify that even though Goodman Brown is faced with the devil and trying to be taken his faith away, there is still a little hope for him...
